Why Uji is Matcha’s Premier Home
- Uji has been a tea-producing region for centuries: tea cultivation in the area dates back to the Kamakura and Muromachi periods. (Wikipedia)
- The region’s climate, soil and misty mornings create ideal conditions—shade-grown tencha leaves preserved high levels of theanine and chlorophyll, leading to Uji’s distinctive deep green colour and umami-rich flavour. (MATCHA SOCIETY)
- Uji matcha remains regarded as one of Japan’s very finest green teas thanks to its tradition, craftsmanship and high standards of cultivation. (KANSAI Guide)
What Makes Our Uji Matcha Exceptional
- Ceremonial Grade: Only tencha leaves grown under shade and carefully processed are used to create our matcha—resulting in fine texture, bright emerald green colour and smooth “umami” flavour.
- Directly Sourced: From the Uji hills to your cup, our matcha is selected for freshness, authenticity and traceability.
- Australian Food-Safety Assured: Packaged in compliance with Australian standards, including food-grade certification, ensuring safe consumption and store-quality freshness in Australia.
- Versatile Use: Perfect for traditional tea ceremony preparation, hot or iced matcha drinks, and premium matcha-based culinary creations.
How to Brew Your Uji Matcha
- Sift ~ 1 g (approx. ½ teaspoon) into a tea bowl (chawan).
- Pour ~ 70-80 ml of water at ~ 75-80 °C.
- Whisk briskly in a “W” or “M” motion for ~ 15–20 seconds until a light froth forms on the surface.
- Sip immediately to appreciate the vibrant greener colour, silky texture and balanced flavour.
- For iced matcha: whisk as above, then pour over 150–200 ml cold water and ice.
Tasting Notes
Our Uji Matcha offers a vivid green colour, a silky, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a beautiful blend of sweetness, light bitterness and umami. The finish is clean and lingering, with gentle vegetal notes and a hint of roasted base.

Serving & Storage Tips
- Use fresh, filtered water; avoid boiling water (100 °C) to preserve flavour.
- Consume within 4-6 weeks once opened; store in the fridge in an airtight container away from light, heat and moisture.
- Matcha is naturally caffeine-present: enjoy mid-morning or early afternoon for best enjoyment (but avoid if caffeine is a concern).
